Bodegas Piqueras has earned further accolades at Europe’s most important organic wine competition. On this occasion, Challenge Millesime Bio 2022 has rewarded five of our wines, with two gold medals going to Piqueras Wild Fermented 2021 and Castillo de Almansa Roble 2020, and a further three silver medals being won by El Abuelo Crianza 2019, Piqueras Old Vines 2019 and Piqueras Gold Label 2019.
Piqueras Wild Fermented has won two gold medals in Millesime BIO
Piqueras Wild Fermented, our Verdejo white wine, together with Castillo de Almansa Roble, were the wines that achieved the highest distinction. Our 100% Verdejo has now won back-to-back gold medals (the 2019 vintage having previously won a medal at the 2020 edition), which gives the achievement still greater lustre given “the difficulty of achieving an award in a competition like Millesime BIO, in which organic wines from all over the world participate and in which values such as sustainability and respect for the environment are key to the final decision of the jury,” in the words of Juan Pablo Cantos, head winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras.
As regards Castillo de Almansa, the competition doubtless took into account “the excellent quality of Castillo de Almansa Roble, which is both one of the most representative organic wines of our winery, and also one of the most internationally recognised.”
These awards for our organic wines come at a time when countries such as Germany, Denmark and Finland are showing greater demand than ever for this type of wine, so in European terms these medals “are a great endorsement of the work we’re doing at Bodegas Piqueras with the organic wine range.”
Three silver medals
Turning to the silver medals, these constitute an important recognition of the quality of our top-of-the-range wines, such as Piqueras Old Vines, Piqueras Gold Label or El Abuelo Crianza.
