Bodegas Piqueras triumphs again at Millésime BIO, one of the most important organic wine fairs in the world. This time with a historic result for our white wine Piqueras Wild Fermented, which has become the first wine in the history of the Almansa Designation of Origin to win three consecutive gold medals at Millésime BIO.
It also means that Piqueras Wild Fermented (in its 2022 vintage) was one of twelve wines to have won a gold medal for Spain, and one of only four achieved by wines from Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencia region.
Three more of our wines, Piqueras Old Vines 2021, Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera 2020 and Los Losares Monastrell 2020 were awarded three silver medals at Millésime BIO. Special mention to the first of these, which repeated the feat having also won silver last year.
Piqueras Wild Fermented, three consecutive gold medals at Millésime BIO
Our 100% Verdejo adds another to its run of gold medals (having previously won gold at the event in 2020 with the 2019 vintage and again with the 2021 vintage in 2022). This hat-trick of golds is made even more memorable given “the difficulty of winning an award in a competition like Millésime BIO, where organic wines from all over the world participate and where values such as sustainability and respect for the environment are key to the jury’s final decision,” explains Juan Pablo Cantos, head winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras.
These awards also come as European countries and major importers around the world are increasingly “demanding higher quality organic wines, which is a valuable recognition of the work we have been doing with organic wines for the last decade at Bodegas Piqueras.”
Three wines with three silver medals
The silver medals are important because they are a tribute to the quality of our top of the range organic red wines, such as Piqueras Old Vines and the Los Losares range.
