“Los Losares Monastrell”, Bodegas Piqueras’ Monastrell from ungrafted vines, is scored at 90 points at the IWSC awards

Los Losares Monastrell is the newest wine from Bodegas Piqueras, having only been available for two months, and has achieved a landmark rating in one of Europe’s most important wine competitions. This 100% Monastrell signature wine has achieved 90 points at the 38th International Wine & Spirit Challenge (IWSC) competition held in London every year.

This single vineyard wine, steeped in the character of our Almansa region, has achieved this landmark in its first vintage, following its release in April 2020 in a limited edition of only 6,000 bottles. This new range of “Los Losares” wines from Bodegas Piqueras is gaining devotees in the wake of similar success on the part of Los Losares Garnacha Tintorera. Los Losares Monastrell goes perfectly with Mediterranean rice dishes or with white meat, especially when enjoyed with friends and family.

Juan Pablo Cantos, head winemaker at Bodegas Piqueras, highlights the importance of this outstanding result at this competition with a wine “that has been available to consumers for a very short time”, an achievement that is more than enough “to justify all the work that has been done in the winery over the last few years, and the decision to age this wine in a new 5,000-litre  barrel”.
