Our grapes grow in complete harmony with nature, in a biological microsystem where animals, plants, sun, soil and air interact to create perfect conditions for the vines.

In addition to our vineyards, we have a wide variety of crops in the area, olive trees, almond trees, walnut trees and cereals, all organically farmed. The extra virgin olive oil, obtained from our ARBEQUINA variety olives, is produced for our own use and for limited local sale..

The Los Timonares estate or “finca” has an organic sheep farm, with the flock grazing freely in the surrounding area. Sheep help to keep vegetation down naturally and their organic manure provides nutrients for the soil.

This is the first estate to be owned by the Piqueras family. It covers an area of 210 hectares to the southeast of Almansa, 750 metres above sea level.

The land under vine on the estate is composed of nutrient-poor, stony and calcareous soils, ideal characteristics for obtaining our youngest, freshest and most expressive range of wines.

Wines produced: young whites (Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc), single varietal reds (Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Monastrell).

The aljibe

In the middle of Finca Timonares stands a limestone “aljibe” or water cistern, in the Moorish style very typical of the area, which is used to collect rainwater for irrigation in dry spells. The “aljibe” was built at the end of the 19th century to supply water to the nearby farms and the exterior was renovated in 2001 to continue its original purpose.

The estate with the oldest vineyards (60–80 years old on average). Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell are native grapes from Almansa, grown as bush vines on stony, nutrient-poor soil. These grapes, of great power and strength, are used in the production of our top wines.

Los Losares: This is the most renowned plot of the Los Cuchillos estate. Standing 900 metres above sea level, the ground is stony, studded with slabs of limestone in the upper part. It is on this nutrient-poor soil of the estate that the oldest ungrafted vines are planted. These century-old vines saw out the phylloxera plague that devastated Spain’s vineyards at the beginning of the 20th century. The grapes from these vines are used to make our signature wines: Los Losares and Piqueras VS. These are wines of limited production made in varying amounts from vintage to vintage.

This is the latest acquisition of the Piqueras family, in a beautiful setting by the Almansa reservoir. It is the ideal environment for organic farming. Olives, almonds, walnuts and cereals flourish among Mediterranean shrubland, in among the vines, giving the wines produced on this estate their special character.

Standing at 800 metres above sea level, the influence of the Mediterranean climate and the looser, sandy soils, partially covered with slightly chalky “chinarro”, allow the grapes to ripen slightly earlier, making it perfect for varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The grapes from these vineyards produce elegant, structured wines with ripe tannins; classically Mediterranean wines, such as our Piqueras Gold Label.
