Bodegas Piqueras has won three silver medals at the Spring Tasting 2017 at Mundus Vini, the prestigious international wine competition. Spanish wine producers harvested the largest number of medals overall, in a powerful statement of the high quality of our product.
The medals were awarded by a professional panel, made up of winemakers, producers, distributors, sommeliers and specialist writers from around the world, who tasted more than 6,100 wines from 150 wine regions.
The first wine to win a medal was our Piqueras Old Vines Garnacha, a rich and full-bodied wine of intense colour, full of aromas of ripe red fruit and fresh woodland herbs. It is notable for the combination of soft, juicy tannins with a good level of natural acidity.
The second medal went to our Valcanto Garnacha Tintorera, a really tasty wine that has plenty of body. This wine is deep in colour and offers aromas of cassis, strawberries and sweet raspberries, with a hint of sage. It is well-structured and has good acidity, with appreciable tannins that give the wine real personality.
The last award was presented to our Valcanto Syrah, a red wine with good body that offers rich, spicy aromas of red cherry, plum and blackberry alongside hints of black pepper embraced by soft tannins. Its balance makes it suitable for further ageing, though it is drinking smoothly and elegantly now.
Mundus Vini is an international competition that takes place twice a year, in its Spring Tasting and Summer Tasting editions, with the wines being tasted blind according to category, origin, quality level and flavour profile.
